Alternative
Medicine

Alternative Medicine is any of a range of medical therapies that are not regarded as orthodox by the medical profession, such as herbalism, homeopathy, and acupuncture.

The functional medicine model is an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. It requires a detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors and leverages that data to direct personalized treatment plans that lead to improved patient outcomes.

By addressing root cause, rather than symptoms, practitioners become oriented to identifying the complexity of disease. They may find one condition has many different causes and, likewise, one cause may result in many different conditions. As a result, functional medicine treatment targets the specific manifestations of disease in each individual.

Naturopathic Doctors concentrate on whole patient wellness through health promotion and disease prevention, while addressing the underlying cause of the patient’s condition. Naturopathic physicians care for patients of all ages and genders, and practice in settings ranging from private clinics to integrative medical centers, urgent care clinics and hospitals. NDs are clinicians, authors, scholars, researchers and entrepreneurs, and are increasingly in demand across numerous industries. They provide individualized, evidence-informed therapies that balance the least harmful and most effective approaches in order to help facilitate the body’s inherent ability to restore and maintain optimal health. Naturopathic doctors are experts in natural medicine, and naturopathic medical education is the most efficient and direct way to train as a primary care doctor who specializes in natural medicine.

Homeopathy, or Homeopathic Medicine, is the practice of medicine that embraces a holistic, natural approach to the treatment of the sick.   Homeopathy is holistic because it treats the person as a whole, rather than focusing on a diseased part or a labeled sickness.   Homeopathy is natural because its remedies are produced according to the U.S. FDA-recognized Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States from natural sources, whether vegetable, mineral, or animal in nature. The word Homeopathy, which comes from the Greek, through Latin into English, literally means like disease .   This means that the medicine given is like the disease that the person is expressing, in his totality, not like a specific disease category or medical diagnosis.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is an age-old approach to medicine that sees the body as a complete system that must be balanced to work in harmony. Inspired by patterns in nature, TCM takes a holistic approach to health and prioritizes prevention over treatment. The five main branches of TCM are acupuncture, herbal medicine, diet, movement, and manual therapy. Each one can help correct subtle imbalances in the body to promote mind-body health.
